The UX Fund became a reality today when Teehan+Lax invested $50,000.00 in 10 companies that give great user experiences.

Over the past couple of weeks, Teehan+Lax, a user experience design and consulting firm in Toronto, engaged its blog readers in a conversation about which companies are giving great user experiences. The goal of the discussion was to determine which companies might comprise a “UX Fund”. After a couple of posts and a series of comments, Teehan+Lax selected the following companies for inclusion:

  • Apple
  • Electronic Arts
  • Google
  • JetBlue
  • Netflix
  • Nike
  • Progressive
  • Research In Motion
  • Target
  • Yahoo!

You can read up on why they chose they companies here.

Great idea and effort guys! When can I expect some bling for my blog in the form of a UX Fund tracker widget. ;)

We need some time to get that page to pull in the data dynamically, then the other stuff is pretty easy. Not sure if you knew what kind of money companies pay to get a 15 minute delayed quote on their site but it’s quite high. I called one service that was going to charge about $5,000/month for ten quotes, tracking the indices is even more expensive. At that rate our fund would need to provide more than a 100% yearly return just to break even.
How about we give you a nice animated GIF for the sidebar? Seriously though, there are other methods to get at this data - I’ll let you know when it’s working.

Boy this brings back memories for me. I remember when I wanted to invest in Krispy Kreme (before it split) and instead I made the most stupid move in the world and Invested in MarchFirst. (we all know how that ended)

Now I just don’t invest. But I love the idea of investing in companies that offer great experiences.

If I ever go at it again, that’s how I’ll do it.

    :)

    Great idea.
